About The Choir
Executive Director / Tutor of 2nd Concert Choir ~ Deborah Munro
Deborah is the co-founder of Young Adelaide Voices. She was Artistic Director for 21 years, and in that capacity recorded nine CDs and led six overseas tours, conducting the Choir for recitals in many prestigious venues such as Westminster Abbey, St Martin-in-the-Fields and the European Youth Choral Festival.
Deborah has been making music most of her life. From her early schooldays as head chorister then assistant organist/choirmaster of a church choir, she went on to gain a Degree in Music and a Diploma in Education from the University of Adelaide, as well as a Graduate Diploma in Educational Counselling from the University of South Australia.
Deborah has directed many choirs in Adelaide, interstate and overseas. She was Music Director of the SA Public Schools' Music Society, a position which involved the in-service training of 200 choral conductors and the workshopping and assessment of school choirs around the state of South Australia. She was also a music specialist at several Adelaide schools, most notably the Marryatville High School Special Interest Music Centre for musically gifted students.
Deborah maintains important links with choirs around the world, both for repertoire and professional development. She is internationally renowned for her choral directing, and has given many workshops around Australia, in the UK, Europe, North America and Hong Kong. She has also been on the staff of the national children's choir, Gondwana Voices, and was recently a member of the international jury for the European Youth Choral Festival.
Warm and caring, with an enormous love of music, Deborah's extensive qualifications and experience in the fields of music education, choral direction and counselling ensure a multi-faceted, holistic approach to the Choir community.
